| Excellent set of large katana fuchi kashira with the popular design of birds flying over the waves. This is one of the best sets I have seen in this motif in a long time that wasn’t seriously expensive. The workmanship is of very high quality, the top grade shakudo nanako background is done very well. The gold that is used for the birds and waves is of the highest level, not plated , but the technique known as uttori or gold foiled. This set would be very nice on any mount, and also is worthy of a shinsa. Since there is some wear (allowable) it is safe to assume that this set is most likely from the Mid Edo period or earlier. The set is very heavy in weight as well showing the high gold content in both the uttori and the shakudo. Original shakudo shitodome included. |
